Badminton

Saint Mary's, Dunmanway is one of the oldest badminton clubs in County Cork. The club moved from the old hall in Main Street to the new Cox Memorial Hall in Sackville Street in October 1950.
They played their first match, which was a friendly against Clonakilty, on 2nd November and they won it 6 games to 2!
It has been a successful club through they years and it still is.
The black and white photograph shows a team from about 1968.

2001-2002 Eleven new members joined this year, four after a lapse of ten years. With so many members we have been able to have five teams entering the Leagues:Namely, Division 5 Mixed, Division 5 Men's, Division 6 Mixed, Division 6 Ladies', and a ladies' novice team. All five teams have reached the semi-finals of the League. All five teams have also reached the semi-finals of the Cup as well! And we are hopeful that some of the teams will win a trophy or two along the way.
The photo above shows the team that won the Bantry Cup in 2000.

This year the Division 5 mixed team won the Southern Star Cup for the first time in this club. Well done!

Each year we run a Whist Drive in November for club funds and we thank all who help in different ways to make it such a success

We have a very large juvenile section this year, and quite a number of new members have joined.
We entered an A and a B team for the under-13 Boys' Leagues. The A team have reached the semi-finals ( this is the team that won the under eleven County final last season!) The B team also did well, winning some of their games as well. Not bad for the first time they entered any competition! They enjoyed playing against different teams and have much improved since the start of the season.
We are grateful to the parents who so willingly take children to matches and help with refreshments for home matches.
Our final snapshot is of the team that played in the All-Ireland Championships in 2000.
